Shared resourcing is working smarter

How do you engage all of the people needed to provide all of the skills required in your business in a cost effective way ?

One solution to this problem is Shared Resourcing whereby a number of businesses which have a common need for a set of knowledge or skills jointly engage someone who can fill that gap for the group.

This is effectively what we do with our "Your HR Manager" service.

Many corporates have implemented shared service strategies whereby various business units might use a central service pool for processing of accounts, payroll administration etc. or shared engineering, quality assurance, occupational health and safety or human resources management services.

The complexities of running a business today are such that one cannot be all things to all people and you cannot afford to try to be because of the costs of getting it wrong.

On the other hand, if you are going to attract the calibre of people that you want to fill the diverse range of needs that you have, you need the critical mass to offer a value proposition for potential employees or contractors.

Here is our suggestion:

  1. Get together a group of other business owners whom you have a level of confidence in
  2. Don't get hung up on industry of participants - the businesses don't have to be in the same or like industry as yours unless the resource requirement is industry specific
  3. Ask the question "what skills do we need in our businesses?"
  4. Look for common ground
  5. Explore the potential for a number to collaborate in sharing a resource to meet the collective need
  6. Take that brief to someone who can help you find the shared resource that the group is looking for and contract them in the right way.

Shared resourcing is working smarter - not harder.

It is also a strategy that can be of great assistance in difficult times when you need to minimise costs and retain the skills that you need - maybe rather than retrenching someone, you can share their services with another business.

If this is something that you would like to explore give us a call - we can help to facilitate the process with your potential shared service partners and in finding and engaging the people to fill the common gaps.
